July 15, 2001 The Third Annual Mighty North Fork Triathlon Under perfect conditions the Mighty North Fork continues it's tradition of being a test of athlete's speed for veterans and an exciting challenge for first timers. An incredible field of half seasoned triathletes (some of the areas fastest were here!) and the other half of nervously excited first timers that really made the day. The finish line got more exciting as the clock ticked away and finisher after finisher streamed in! First and foremost the most impressive first timer of the day was a challenged athlete!! A few box of Phil's bars awaits the first person to scan the results and find this great athlete who promises to join us at the Mighty Hamptons! The third was a charm for Kervin Quinones who after two seconds one in 99 and another last year, he opened a lead on the bike that proved too large for runner up (1999 champion) Mike Trunkes to erase! The women's race was lead from start to finish by Amity Hall who finished an impressive 12th overall! With the absence of Mighty Montauk winner Donna McMahon, Amity will be tied with her for first place in the Long Island Triathlon Sseries, both women will head into September 15th's Mighty Hampton's race with 10 points, this will add to the already exciting festivities planned for the 20th Anniversary celebration of the Mighty Hamptons!
