Open Water Festival Welcomes Swimmers, Tri-Athletes
(FORT MYERS, FL ) – Looking to test your mettle against the
elements? The 2006 Open Water Festival on Fort Myers Beach will provide
opportunities for athletes of all ages and abilities. Now in its fourth
year, the Open Water Festival will again showcase the 2006 USA Swimming Open
Water National Championships in three distances (5K, 10K and 25K).
While the national championship races are open only to members of USA Swimming (or another FINA national association) the events on June 3rd are open to all athletes. The day begins with a “Triterium,” (1 mile run / ¼ mile swim / 1 mile run) on Fort Myers Beach, and ends with the Sunset Dash for Cash. This event offers a “pro” purse of $5,000 (with a $1,500 first prize for men and women). Athletes not eligible to receive cash prizes will be awarded age group trophies.
“In the years since we started the Open Water Festival, we’ve
tried to add events that will appeal to a wide range of athletes,” said
event organizer Gregg Cross. “The Triterium and Dash for Cash are designed
to challenge athletes of all ages. We’ve had kids as young as seven
participate, along with Master’s Swimmers.”
